Arijit Singh Reacts to Fan Request for Protest Song During UK Tour: “Not the Right Time, Right Place”

During his ongoing tour in the UK, singer Arijit Singh was confronted with an unusual request. While he was performing the popular track Ramta Jogi from the film Taal, a fan asked him to sing Aar Kobe, a protest song he had created after a tragic incident at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College. A video of this moment was shared on Instagram by user rahul__roy983, capturing the interaction between Arijit and the fan.

Pausing his performance, Arijit addressed the request, saying, “This is not the right place for that. People have come here to enjoy the music, not for protests. I understand that the song holds great meaning, but it’s not the right moment here.

Arijit then continued, “If you truly feel moved by the cause, take action. Go to Kolkata, gather like-minded people, and protest there. Many Bengalis are present here, too. The song Aar Kobe is freely available; it’s not monetized and never will be. Anyone can use it for raising awareness.”

He resumed singing but reiterated his stance, stressing that the song was meant to support a cause, and its purpose is to serve as a call to action rather than being commercially exploited.

The Story Behind Aar Kobe Arijit released Aar Kobe in August last year on his YouTube channel. Written and composed by Arijit himself, the song was created to honor the victim of a horrific crime that occurred at RG Kar Medical College and to highlight the broader issue of gender-based violence.

The description accompanying the song reads, “This track is a cry for justice and a demand for change. It serves as a reminder that the fight for women’s safety and dignity is still ongoing. The song also stands as a tribute to all those who tirelessly work towards this cause.”

The incident at RG Kar Medical College involved the rape and murder of a postgraduate woman doctor in a seminar hall on August 9. The crime led to the arrest of a Kolkata Police civic volunteer, sparking outrage and demands for justice.
