Filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri, known for his directorial work on “The Kashmir Files,” has voiced his concerns over the increasing instances of terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. His reaction follows a recent encounter in Kupwara district where an Indian Army soldier was killed and several others were injured while repelling an assault by Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT).
The attack occurred in the Kamakari sector of Kupwara, where security forces engaged in a fierce gunfight with the BAT. The clash resulted in the death of a Pakistani intruder and injuries to four Indian soldiers, including a captain. According to sources, two intruders managed to retreat to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) amidst the intense exchange of fire. The skirmish, which began when the intruders hurled a grenade and opened fire on a forward post near the Kumkadi post in Trehgam sector, lasted several hours.
Vivek Agnihotri expressed grave concerns about the situation on social media, stating, “Religious Terrorism in Kashmir is occurring on an almost daily basis. There is a strong current of fear among Hindus in the Jammu region, which is the intention, and it’s a very dangerous development. This must be nipped in the bud immediately. Btw, Macchal is named after Maa Durga, aka Machail Mata.” Agnihotri’s comments highlight the rising apprehension among the Hindu community in Jammu and emphasize the urgent need for effective counter-terrorism measures.
The BAT, typically composed of special forces personnel from the Pakistan Army and terrorists, is known for its aggressive tactics. The recent incident underscores the persistent security challenges along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir.
In addition to the Kupwara encounter, there has been a notable increase in terror attacks in the Jammu region over recent months, including attacks on an Army convoy in Kathua and encounters in Doda and Udhampur. The escalating violence has raised concerns about the safety and security of the region’s residents and the effectiveness of current counter-terrorism efforts.
The injured soldiers have been evacuated to a base hospital, with one in critical condition. The ongoing situation reflects the heightened security concerns in the area and the continuous need for vigilance and robust responses from security forces to combat terrorism and ensure the safety of civilians and military personnel alike.
