In a fresh clash along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district, Jammu and Kashmir, two Indian Army soldiers were injured, and one Pakistani national was killed on Saturday morning. The exchange of fire occurred near the Kamkari post in the Macchal sector of the north Kashmir district.
The injured soldiers have been evacuated and are receiving medical treatment. The operation in the area is ongoing, with further details awaited. This encounter marks the fourth such incident in Kupwara in the past month, underscoring the heightened security challenges in the region.
Earlier this week, on Wednesday, a terrorist was neutralized, and a non-commissioned officer (NCO) sustained injuries during a similar confrontation. This firefight was initiated following a joint search operation conducted by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police, based on specific intelligence regarding terrorist activity.
Previously, on July 14, security forces thwarted an infiltration attempt in Kupwara’s Keran sector, resulting in the elimination of three terrorists. The same sector saw another successful intervention when two terrorists were killed earlier this month.
In light of the escalating situation, Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi visited the LoC in Kupwara. During his visit, he reviewed the security situation, interacted with the troops, and praised their efforts in managing the ongoing security challenges. General Dwivedi commended the soldiers for their professionalism and urged them to remain vigilant in the face of emerging threats.
The Army’s Chinar Corps posted on X (formerly Twitter), detailing the visit: “General Upendra Dwivedi, #COAS, visited the forward locations of #ChinarCorps & reviewed the security situation along the Line of Control #LOC. He also interacted with the Commanders and troops on the ground. #COAS lauded all ranks for maintaining high standards of professionalism & exhorted them to remain steadfast in meeting emerging #security challenges.”
The situation remains dynamic as security forces continue their operations to address the persistent threat in the region.
