Aishwarya Rajesh Advocates for Toilets on Film Sets and Speaks Out on Sexual Harassment in Tamil Cinema

Aishwarya Rajesh has raised an important issue about the lack of proper toilet facilities for women on film sets, especially during outdoor shoots. While she may have access to a vanity van, she highlights the struggles faced by other female crew members who lack these basic necessities. In addition, she welcomes the formation of a committee to address sexual harassment cases in Tamil cinema but stresses the need for concrete actions and protection for women who report such incidents.

Aishwarya Rajesh, one of Tamil cinema’s most acclaimed actors, has called attention to a vital concern that affects many women working in the film industry— the absence of proper toilet facilities on film sets, particularly during outdoor shoots. Although lead actors like her may have the comfort of a vanity van, she expressed concern for the women working behind the scenes who often struggle with a lack of basic amenities. “It’s really tough for women on long outdoor shoots,” she said, urging the industry to prioritize such logistical needs.

Her remarks come at a time when the Tamil film industry is also confronting another crucial issue—sexual harassment. Aishwarya Rajesh has voiced her support for the recently formed committee by the Nadigar Sangam (Tamil Nadu Actors’ Association), which aims to address sexual harassment complaints. Led by actor Rohini, the committee will cooperate with the cyber police, and those found guilty of sexual misconduct face a ban from the industry for five years.

While Aishwarya herself has not experienced such incidents, she firmly believes that every report should be taken seriously. “Just because it hasn’t happened to me doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen to others,” she said. She emphasized the importance of offering real help to women who come forward with complaints, ensuring they are not silenced or penalized for speaking up. “Women shouldn’t lose their careers because they make a complaint,” she stressed.

Additionally, Aishwarya, who has made a mark across Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi films, shared some empowering advice for women in the industry. “You need to be strong and confident. If someone makes an unwanted advance, you must firmly say ‘No’. It’s essential to stand your ground and be bold,” she urged, emphasizing that women in the industry need to protect themselves and not allow anyone to overstep boundaries.

Aishwarya Rajesh’s commitment to addressing these issues marks an important step towards ensuring safer and more equitable working environments for women in the film industry.
